The ECOWAS Immersion Programme is designed to help close that gap. Participants will work in a professional regional institution, contribute to programmes affecting West Africa and develop experience that can strengthen future applications for employment, fellowships, postgraduate studies and international development opportunities.
This is not simply another online training programme. Selected participants will gain direct workplace exposure within ECOWAS departments, agencies, institutions, permanent representations or other designated locations.

Who Can Apply?
You should consider applying if you:
Are a Nigerian citizen or a citizen of another eligible ECOWAS Member State.
Will be 32 years old or younger when applications close.
Hold a degree from a recognized institution.
Can work professionally in English, French or Portuguese.
Are prepared to participate in a full-time, one-year professional placement.
The programme is expected to run from January to December 2027.
Graduates with Bachelor’s, Master’s, doctoral or equivalent qualifications may be eligible. Applicants should review the available position profiles carefully because individual placements may require particular academic backgrounds or technical skills.

What You Will Need

Applicants may apply for up to two available positions but should submit only one cover letter. That letter must clearly explain why your qualifications, experience and interests match the positions you select.
How to Make Your Application Stronger
Do not submit the same general CV and cover letter you use for every opportunity.
First, study the available position descriptions. Identify the qualifications, technical knowledge and competencies ECOWAS is seeking. Then adjust your CV so that your most relevant education, projects, volunteer work, internships and employment experience are easy to find.
Your cover letter should answer three practical questions:
Why are you interested in the specific ECOWAS placement?
What skills or knowledge can you contribute?
How will the experience support your longer-term professional goals?
You do not need years of formal employment to present a strong application. Relevant university projects, research, national service experience, volunteering, leadership roles, community work and technical training can all demonstrate your capabilities.
Be specific. Instead of saying that you are hardworking, explain what you completed, improved, organized, researched or delivered.

Applications opened on 31 July 2026 and close on 31 August 2026. ECOWAS has directed candidates to submit applications through its dedicated Young Professionals portal.
Do not wait until the final day. Application platforms can become congested, documents may require correction and email verification can take time.
Use only the official ECOWAS website and application portal. Do not pay an individual or intermediary to submit your application. The opportunity is competitive, but an application cannot succeed if it is never submitted.
A Message to Nigerian Youth
Too many qualified young Nigerians exclude themselves from opportunities before the selection process even begins.
They assume they do not have enough experience, that applicants with connections will automatically be selected or that international and regional programmes are only for graduates from wealthy families.
Do not make the selection decision for ECOWAS.
Read the requirements. Prepare your documents properly. Present your experience honestly and strategically. Then apply.
